The print “Secrets” is without doubt the most unusual print in the Ruby Linker inaugural collection. It isn't every day that you see shirts with "big heads" on the front and back.
I didn't start out by planning "big heads", but the design was inspired by figures that appear in several Medieval paintings, and once I started working on it, they kind of took on a life of there own.
I’m actually kind of a Medieval geek. Anyone who has ever visited an art museum with me knows that they don’t get to rush past the rooms with the altarpieces and illuminated manuscripts on their way to the Impressionist gallery, or whatever trendy show is the focus of the museum visit. No such luck; they’re going to have to bear with me as I gleefully hover over each and every glass case and marvel at the impossibly detailed recreations of life as it was lived so many years ago.
In this particular print I combined figures from several sources. The characters are large and prominent because I wanted to focus on their facial expressions. The two on the front are sharing their secret. On the back right of the tunic are two who are already aware of the secret, and the single figure on the left could be the subject of the secret, or, she could just be saying to herself, “Seriously, I mean, Seriously?”
