You might wonder how Karen’s unique digital designs are transferred to fabric. For that portion of the creation process, we use a state-of-the-art printing technique called dye-sublimation. This technique does not lay color onto the surface of the cloth, as with certain ink and screen printing techniques. Instead, dye-sublimation transfers thin sheets of color that are then heated and vaporized to form a chemical bond with the cloth.

As a result, it is possible to produce gentle gradations and complex detail. This high-quality process is slower and more expensive than many other techniques, and can only be performed on polyester. Because the dyes are infused into the fabric, the finished colors are permanent and wash-proof.
